TEACHING GRIDS

10/26/2015

This last week we started project 3 in ARTGR 270. The project focus' on Grids and Typography.  What a fun and exciting topic!   The objectives of the assignment are
  1. To understand and utilize the principles of typographic hierarchy, such as contrast,
    repetition, anomaly.
  2. To demonstrate knowledge of typographic legibility and clarity.
  3. To utilize a grid as an organizational tool for typographic communication.

This project is a little different than what the students have done so far.  They are learning a lot about visual communication and technique.  It is extremely important for them to get the most information out of this specific project because learning how to use grid and text effectively will take the student's future projects a long way.

Even though there is a lot to learn, we are still having fun.  The two students pictured above were joking that they wore their grids to class.  We had a good laugh out of it and I asked for permission to take their photo.  Congrats girls! You are now on my blog!

Another, topic of this post is, I have also rearranged the tables in the classroom to facilitate more discussion and engagement in the classroom.  This article explains a little more reasoning to my decision to change the classroom layout. (link)  The image below from the website gives more reasoning to why I have moved the desk space around.  I highly recommend visiting the website and learning more about seating arrangements.  I found it to be really interesting!

Well, I am off to photograph more student projects and finish up grading project 2. Hope to have another post up soon about a few projects I am working on in my spare time.
