MEETING A LEGEND

6/9/2015

A few months ago, my brother and I had a fantastic opportunity to see Stefan Sagmeister speak for the Iowa Chapter of AIGA at Drake University.  I sprung for the extra expensive tickets so that we could have special seating to listen to his lecture, as well as meet him at the after party.

This trip was truly fantastic because I was able to go with my very amazing and talented brother Jacob.  I truly think he enjoyed the lecture as much as I did.

I was a little bummed because it had come to my attention the day of the event that my Stefan Sagmeister book had been stolen.  I don't know why it bothers me so, except for the fact that it was one of my favorite books.  That books was out and used more often than any other book I owned. I was looking forward to having him sign the book, but alas that did not happen.

The sunny side of this story is, my brother knew I was disappointed and made the effort to talk with Stefan Sagmeister and have him sign his poster.  Jacob then gave that poster to me.  What a thoughtful brother I have.  Pretty lucky if I do say so myself.

As part of the after party, they had napkins on the tables and sharpies.  They were placed there for people to make comments and sketches of anything they wanted or in relation to the lecture.  The napkins above are the images and comments, my brother and I drew on the napkins.

It was a once in a life time chance to meet such a famous designer and actually shake his hand.  My hands were personally shaking for a while after. Such a great experience and well worth the tickets.
