GENERATIONAL ART PART ONE

A great idea came to me today. [at least I think it is a great idea] I decided that either every day or once a week I will upload a painting created by either myself, my mother, my grandmother, my great grandmother, or my great great grandmother.  I think it will give my blog a extra umph to make people return.

For many generations we have had artist in my family on my mother's side.  My great great grandma, Mary Greely was a painter.  My mother and I didn't know this until we uncovered a painting dated 1900 with her signature. I think that will be the first painting I show in this multiple part series.

Mary Greely came from Country Cork Ireland.  She loved to read. She was the mother of Ann Morgan.  I believe the painting above is the only painting we have of hers, which makes it even more of a treasure. When we originally found the painting, it was buried deep under the stairs of my grandmothers house. We were going through grandmother's house after sadly grandma Elaine Workman and my uncle TT [Timothy Workman] passed away. Both are I am sure feeling much better no longer being confined by the illnesses of this world. Back to the painting.....I was asked by Teresa to help clear out some things from underneath the stairs. While under the stairs I found some metal shelves with empty frames.  As I continued to dig, I found paintings starting to fill the frames.  My heart was overjoyed beyond any sort of happiness I had felt before. As we were pulling them out my heart leapt for each one.  While looking over them there was one that did not have the same style as the rest. We thought it was one grandma purchased but it turns out that it after further examination that it was dated 1900 and had the initials of great great grandma Mary Greely.  How cool was that!?

So between now and the next time I post a painting I hope to think of a cool name for this weekly speciality blog post...like Monday Various Painting or MVP....or Very Important Paintings, VIP....OR WEDNESDAY IMPORTANT PAINTINGS AKA WIP.....lol I need to stop....these ideas are silly.  Well I hope you all enjoyed today's painting of the week! It is a special one to me and my family.
