All the images were originally created in pen and ink. The first image after being inked was taken into photoshop and color was added. The second bee in the set was actually the first bee I worked on. This one was done in pen and ink and then color pencils were brought into the mix. The final image is one of my favorites. I love when i can invert something and make it look entirely different.
Over break I gave myself the opportunity of creative freedom. I love working with bees so I decided to work on some medical illustrative images of them. The above images showcase what I have been creating since I gave myself the license to do as I wanted.

I had so much fun teaching this group of students. I am so excited to see what they design and create after this class. I will be posting images later on the student work section of my website of some of their finals from this class.
If you are interested, above you can see a image of the whole class. I thought it would be fun to get a group shot of everyone with their favorite piece from their final project. Going to start grading tonight. I am looking forward to reading all the reflective statements. Oh my goodness I am so excited! I believe that even though this is the first time I have taught a studio class in graphic design, it went extremely well. Not only was I able to construct my own projects, I was able to make a educational connection to inspire my students to push hard for the right answers and the best design solutions. Although this was their first course in graphic design and they have a lot to learn, they created amazing projects. One of my first semesters here I took an amazing course on symbology. It was a informative course that taught me so much about simplifying my designs to tell a story without all the extra information that is not necessary. Hard to believe how much everyone has changed since taking this class together.
Everyone has graduated, some got married, some had kids, and some are going to get their PHD. I learned so much from this course and was so thankful to have my instructor Lisa Fontaine. She really knows what she is teaching and takes such pride in it. It is my goal to be as knowledgeable as she is in her subject matters. One of the things I find inspiring about her is that she cares about her student's education. My final symbol projects were the wolf and sheep clothing symbol and the sex trafficking story as told through symbols. Both were highly informative projects. What was cool about this class is Lisa Fontaine built me up throughout the class and made me feel as though I had a talent in symbology which I never would have thought in a million years I would be good at. Thank you Lisa for your time, attention, and for making me feel confident in this area of design. |
