POSTCARDS FROM THE GODS

5/5/2015

During this semester I worked on a collaborative book project with 6 other classmates and 1 instructor.  There was one minor difficulty with the project, like me wanting to do it by myself because I am a graduate student, and I should do more work. I soon got over that as I worked through the project and assigned myself a extra postcard to create.

At the end of this project I felt learned more than I was expecting.  I learned that working collaboratively on a book project was way different than other collaborative projects I had worked on. I didn’t not expect while working on this project that I would need and appreciate the all work that other classmates would be helping with.  For example Bri helped by proof reading my paragraphs, which was one of the most amazing ways in which someone helped me personally with this project.  The reason this was so important to me was I decided to do twice the work of the project by creating two separate postcards and stories and due to the fact that I am not the best writer, her help made my project even better.

I really enjoyed the project, even if I did feel bad that I was not able to do my own project, but in the end I am glad because it is a great project for the portfolio.  I am excited to edit all the photographs and post them for everyone to use and so that I can put the photos on my portfolio website.  I look forward to hearing from Paula about the book as it is given as gifts and placed into shows.

One of the things that excited me the most about this project was being the one who design the stamp that everyone used. Especially, when I received recognition on the inside of everyone’s box.  It is as if I had played a bigger part in the project than I thought I would at the start of the project.

Overall this was a great project where I learn a lot of techniques, including the best way to make sure your ruler is straight by using your xacto knife, how to make a tab on a box, and how to take my time to make sure my craft was near perfect.  Thank you Paula for another informative and exciting semester.
